Starting December 1, and running through until the ‘jolly one’ graces our fireplaces, the artists will take over the Artist’s Lounge shop window!

Of course, all the artists involved are from the Yarra Valley and have artwork and hand-made wares in the shop…

On any given day you may see Fibre artist – Adrienne Kneebone, Illustrator & Journaller – Katz Cowley, Textile artist – Carolyn Rogers, Sculptor – Mim Kocher, Encaustic artist – Ember Faribarin, Wearable artist – Simone Hill, Wood sculptor & painter – Jeremy and Julia Shub, Potter – Laura Windmill, Pastel artist – Denise Smith, Painter – Wendy Jane Sheppard, ceramist – Alistair Whyte, a ‘Sally Anderson and Lisa Male-Robertson’ collaboration, along with shop co-owner/artist – Ali Griffin.

Healesville’s newest published author, Matt Hooper, will be signing his first book ‘Phoebe Leder and the Time Lockers’, a book aimed at young adults… a great christmas gift for your ‘hard to buy for’ young adult…

So come, have a coffee whilst you watch them taking over the shop, and keep your money local… they will be happy to sign your latest purchase! What a special christmas gift.

How to use Sennelier Oil Sticks…

Oil sticks offer the same advantages as oil paint. The suppleness of use enables you to produce any experiment. It may be handled like a pen. Contrary to oil paint, the drying process for the surface colour film is rather quick : usually it takes a day.

The Lomandra Project is currently showing at the Artist’s Lounge…  And as one of our ‘random acts of inspiration’, Adrienne will be able to be seen working on her wonderous weaving in the window of the Artist’s Lounge on December 15th and 16th.

Adrienne’s Victorian exhibition opens on Nov 5 and runs through to Dec 18, 2011.

Adrienne Kneebone has worked with Indigenous Women for the past four years coordinating a community based initiative called ‘The Pandanus Project’. Adrienne combines traditional techniques with contemporary concepts to create exquisite forms. She is passionate about sharing her knowledge and experience. The Artist’s Lounge 10 metre black chalkboard gallery wall is available for artists to exhibit their works.

Artists are invited to apply for use of the entire wall, or one artwork at a time.

The space offers high visibility, as is situated in the main street of Healesville, Victoria. The space is only available to ‘local’ artists, as this is the theme of all the works in the store.

The space is suitable for artworks that can be hung only. There is limited space for sculpture, however textiles and other 3 dimensional artworks that can be hung are suitable.

Our wall needs some lovin’! Artist’s Lounge is looking for an artist with a head full of ideas and inspiration to do a piece of wonderful artwork on the side of the shop in main street Healesville. The winner will be granted all the publicity we can muster, an art supplies voucher to the value of $300 and a free of commission exhibition on the wall of Artist’s Lounge. Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 11am – 4pm, until June 26, 2011. Castellaville Art Prize now showing at Three Stories. The Castellaville Art Prize is an annual competition celebrating artistic endeavour in the Yarra Valley. Named after the original holding upon which Stones of the Yarra Valley is located, Castellaville was a vibrant hub of activity throughout the late 1800’s, with the original hayshed, historic stables and English Elms still standing today.

On Wednesday, June 1 a gala evening was held at Stones of the Yarra Valley to announce the winner of the 2011 Castellaville Art Prize. Our judging panel included Anthony Fitzpatrick, Curator of the Tarrawarra Museum of Art, Ali Griffin from Three Stories Artspace in Healesville and our very own Vonnie Frazer from Stones, and we are delighted to announce that the panel awarded first prize to Robert Knight for his oil-on-linen painting ‘Autumn View’.

As the 2011 winner Robert received a $3000 cash prize, with the painting retained for display at Stones of the Yarra Valley.

Special commendations also went to the following artists for their outstanding entries:

Leigh Knight – Snapshots of Stones – Acrylic

Michael Tollis – A Welcome – Watercolour

Amanda Ruck – The Crescent – Acrylic

The 2011 finalists are now on display as part of a public exhibition at Three Stories Artspace, from June 3 – 26, 2011.

Three Stories, in conjunction with Yarra Valley Arts has tailored a workshop just for artists - “The secret to artistic success”.  Presented by experienced trainer and life coach, Amy Howard.

The workshop is based on positive psychology and NLP (the science of successful thinking).

The three main topics are:

• Visualizing for success
• Harnessing the power of self belief
• The language of success
